Codes and conventions of a website

When it comes to codes and conventions of a website you can consider; The codes and conventions in terms of layout and design, The technical code used, The codes and conventions in terms of content of the website, Genre codes and The way codes are used to target the audience and attempt to address them appropriately.

Layout and design
When creating a website you need to consider the layout and the design, the design should be considered carefully as a wrong choice of colours may lead to hard reading This is an example, This is an example
As you can see from the two examples the first one is unpractical as it is very hard to see the writing and is strenuous for your eyes. The second example has text that stands out from the background.
The layout plays a vital role as you want the main content to be visible, this is usually located in the middle of the page. The content with navigation tools are usually located on the left of the page or  across the top of the page. Images are used to add to the visual experience.

The Technical codes used
The websites of the 21st century may use a combination of programing languages to provide the best Internet experience. Some websites are flash based which may make the website more visualy apealing as they can contain complex animations. This is all good if the client has the latest flash player, but if the client does not he will not be able to see the full pottential of the website or may not be able to view it at all. When creating a website you should also consider the mobile users, some people might want to visit your website on the move and not all mobile device support flash.

Content of the website
You need to consider what is the purpose of the website, is it to provide factual information or enterntainment. A website used to provide factual information will be more text based and may include couple of pictures. on the other hand a website for enterntainment will have lots of images have vibrant colours, it may also include videos and even online games.

Target the audience
you need to make sure that the website appeals to the appropriet audience. There is no point of having a lot of writing for a childrens website as they will not want to read all the text, they would rather look at pictures or take part in online games.
