Typical conventions of a music video

Hip-Hop
Hip hop music videos are usually set in a club or in a party. The main features of it are jewellery, drugs, alcohol, sports cars. You can expect to find half naked dancers or models in these kind of music videos.

Rock
Usually show the band performing on stage dressed in leather or dark clothing. They are usually use dark/ deep colour. There are a lot of camera movement and little or not special effects.

Pop
These kind of videos are very colourful, fun and are aimed at teenagers. There are a lot of close ups of the artist and usually shows the artist/ band dancing. These kind of music videos are set somewhere where people go to relax and enjoy themselves e.g. a beach.
Indie
Indie music videos show the band performing in a calm environment before the beat kicks in and everything changes. these kind of music videos might be black and white and have some special effects.
Dance
Dance/club music videos are usually set in a club or a party, and involve half naked women performing a dance routine. They are upbeat and fun videos, it also has to have a lot of bright colours .e.g. light shows.

R'n'B
The artist or the band is the centre of attention. There is usually a narrative and hardly no performance. Women usually wear revealing clothing and money is portrayed positively.
